Alien Intelligence: AI and the Future of Architecture

  • American University in Dubai EMBA Room 115 Dubai UAE (map)

Everyone is talking about AI these days. But what exactly is it? How did it evolve? And what potential does it have to influence the future? This lecture takes you on a roller coaster ride looking at the extraordinary – but often somewhat terrifying – potential of what is arguably the most significant invention of humankind. The lecture concludes that we are about to face a radically different form of intelligence – an ‘alien intelligence’ – that will far exceed human intelligence, and completely transform the discipline of architecture.

About the Speaker

Professor Neil Leach is a prominent architect, theorist, and educator known for his interdisciplinary approach to architecture, particularly integrating technology and philosophy. He is a professor at Florida International University and Tongji University in Shanghai, with a significant focus on digital design and advanced technologies in architecture.

Leach is notable for being one of the first architects to explore the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on architecture. He has written extensively on computational design, parametricism, and AI, emphasizing how these technologies can transform architectural practice and theory. His books, such as Rethinking Architecture and Architecture in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, delve into how digital tools and AI reshape design methodologies.

Leach's work often bridges the gap between technological innovation and architectural theory, making him a leading voice in the dialogue around the future of architecture in a digital age.
